“First looks” are wedding photo sessions that take place BEFORE the wedding ceremony, capturing the soon-to-be-married couple seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. Wedding couples, check out these wedding photo tips for a successful first-look photo shoot!
Before Your Wedding Day
Discuss with your photographer the logistics of the first-look photo shoot. The first look session can be done about two hours before the ceremony, so plan your time accordingly.
Pick a Location
Your photographer will find a intimate spot that’s relatively secluded so no one can enter.
Avoid seeing each other before the first-look wedding photos. Get ready in separate locations and tell your bridesmaids and groomsmen to avoid downloading any photos of you on social media before you’ve seen each other for the first time. You want the moment to be genuine!
This is one of those wedding day photo moments that should not be posed!
Keep It Simple
The most important part of the first-look wedding photos is seeing the expressions on both of your faces. Keep it simple, sweet, easy to stage, and you will get the emotional, clear photos you desire.
Enjoy your Day!
Before seeing each other for the first time, take a deep breath and let all the wedding day stress melt away. After your first look moment, express your love for one another. This is your once-in-a-lifetime moment and you want your wedding photos to convey your happiness, not any wedding day anxiety.
Don't Want to See Each Other?
If you and/or your spouse do NOT want to see each other before the ceremony, you can still snap a great photo by standing on opposite sides of a doorway, holding hands, but not peeking at each other. This can be a sweet, romantic wedding moment to capture!
